Birthday Celebrations

Last week, on Tuesday the 9th of February, I turned 23. Now, I don’t know about you, but I like to streeeeetch my birthday as long as  possible. Which basically comes down to me planning a lot of dinners with family and friends, in order to satisfy my very demanding and bottomless birthday stomach. So, after a boozy party in Ghent on Monday,  nacho’s & burgers with friends on Tuesday and delicious sushi with my man on Thursday, it was time to celebrate with my family on Sunday. And since I already ticked off Mexican and Japanese from my list, it was time for that other favorite food of mine: Thai!

We all gathered in the rain at Antwerp’s Groenplaats and hurrily ran off to one of my sister’s favourite places to grab some drinks: Belmondo. It’s warm, cozy, pretty and smack dab in the heart of Antwerp, so we immediately felt at home and ordered our drinks. My parents, brother and sister showered me with gifts and for a while, I was happily unpacking and sipping from my homemade lemonade. (pssss, if you want to know which gifts I got, don’t stop reading because I will show them all later in this post.)

However, we had to leave soon after, because our dinner reservation was waiting. I had booked a table at ‘Le thai‘: a pretty new and unknown thai place in Antwerp, that I chose because it had a couple of excellent reviews on Tripadvisor.

And boy, we didn’t regret the decision! The food was amazing, the service was as friendly as can be, the interior was in typical thai-style and the prices reasonable (although I didn’t have to worry about the latter, because dad was the one who paid, hoorayy).

After ordering drinks, we began to browse the menu for something tasty.

Hi dad!

Oh, and a very blurry picture of me as well, just to prove to you that, yes, I was there to.

Unfortunately, the picture above was not the only one that turned out blurry. Because of the dimmed lighting, almost all food-pics were ruined. But hey, I can tell you we had delicious appetizers to share (springrolls, spicy chicken wings, chicken skewers, fish cookies and soup) and afterwards even more delicious goodies to enjoy.

The waitress encouraged us to each take a different dish, so we could taste all the lovely things she had on offer. All plates and bowls were put on a warm plate in the middle of the table, so we could easily taste eachother’s choices.

My boyfriend and my sister’s boyfriend went for Phad Preew Wan, my sister and mom picked Pad Thai, my father had a Phanaeng Curry and I took what I always take: green curry. 🍜 Seriously, I get hungry only thinking about it.

Phad Preew Wan – it may not look like much but wait ’till you try it.

The restaurant is owned by a Thai woman and a man from Greece. Who apparently liked us so much, that we got little shots of ouzo and a special Greek dance at the end of the night! I guess that’s pretty weird for a Thai place but we loved it all the more.

Needless to say that after dinner, we all returned to our homes with full tummies and a very satisfied smile on our face.
But I know you are not satisfied just yet! Because you, curious little reader, you still want to know which birthday gifts I got from my friends and family. Ammiright?!

First of all: I got (in my eyes at least!) a lot. My friends and family really spoiled me with little treats and by now, I have for sure started  using, wearing and constantly admiring them all. I think I managed to take pictures of every gift, so let’s have a peek.

It all began when I came home from Ghent on Tuesday, and I found an extremely gorgeous bouquet of flowers in the kitchen.

SAMSUNG CSC

My sister had ordered them on Bloomon, which is an amazing flower-delivery service that brings wild, unexpected and always mesmerizing bouquets right to your doorstep. I got mine last week, and it is still going strong, constantly changing and growing.

And on Sunday, my brother added another bouquet of pink roses to the flower-fun.

But it didn’t stop with flowers! My lovely friends and family clearly know me very well (or they used my super practical little wishlisht), because I also got spoiled with make-up, jewelry, books and booze!

First up: jewelry!

Sparkly earrings to wear on fancy nights from my brother.

SAMSUNG CSC

Minimalistic golden earrings from D and L. I have worn them at least 5 times since last week.

SAMSUNG CSC

They are pretty cool because the vertical part goes behind rather than in front of your ear.

On the make-up department, I got a crazy big voucher from my bf to go shopping for special mineral make-up. Which I’m planning to do very soon! And a bunch of other lovely goodies from the others:

A liquid eyeliner from my sweet sister.

Two mascara’s (one from my sister and one from my mom, this happens when you send them the same wishlisht of course, haha!), sparkly and grey nailpolish and eyepallete from Z.

I have used this palette several times since I got it and I’m veeerry happy about it. Really good texture and great pigment. Thanks Z!

Again from L and D, a nude-pink nail polish and a delicious smelling body spray that makes me want to go on a holiday!

In fact, I am still wearing that nailpolish and you can see it on my nails on this picture right here.

On top of that, in order to make sure that I can put all these new make-up products away, my mom and dad got me a new toilet bag. Weehoo! I had been in big need for a new one for many months and I wanted it to be in a plain, stylish colour so my mom really did a great job hunting one down that I love.

We’re not there yet! N and C spoiled me with a book (they know I love reading) and an adorable block calendar that makes me enjoy the little things every day.

Oh and there’s another little voucher peeking out of that book, which promises me a Mexican dinner including margharita’s at my sister’s home. Woohoop!

SAMSUNG CSC

Last but not least, there were the people who know I love me a good cocktail every day now and then.

So C gave me giant margharita glasses (that’s my favourite cocktail).

And I got the sweetest mojito-making basket from my mother in law.

SAMSUNG CSC

I’m pretty sure that this means I need to start managing my reputation…

SAMSUNG CSC

… Or not! Do you keep a wishlisht when it’s about to be your birthday? Do you also love thai food? Let me know!

xx B
